All packages include additional liability insurance from our insurance partner HanseMerkur for up to EUR 1 million.
Basic Package : This package includes the supplier’s basic insurance . The customer is responsible for the first $5,000 of the cost of damage to the property of third parties or the rental vehicle itself, including theft and burglary, damage to the windscreen and tires, as well as roof structure and underbody.
BasicPLUS Package: The same as the Basic Package with our insurance partner, HanseMerkur, covering the cost of the loss of the NZ$3,000 deposit due from the customer at pick-up.
Premium package: Pacific Horizon’s additional insurance is included, which reduces excess of the first damage incident to $0. In the event of further damage, you can then take out insurance again to insure the remaining days of your rental. Also insured are 1x windscreen and 2 tire damage incidents, single vehicle accidents, roof construction and underbody. In the event of further damage, you can then take out insurance again on site to insure the remaining days of your rental.
There is no insurance for damaged caused by: - by gross negligence; - by river crossings, floods or salt water; - by using contaminated, incorrect fuel or biodiesel; - single vehicle rollovers, - damage to the vehicle when through use of the snow chains; -Towing - on awnings; - on personal property.
Damage to the roof tent in the Beta 4 Berth is insured only in the premium package - but not in the case of single vehicle accidents (for example driving against ceilings of multi-storey car parks, against tree beaches, etc.)
Single vehicle rollovers always come with an excess amount of $5,000.
Spaceships must be notified with 24 hours of any accident/damage incident. Failure to report will result in loss of coverage.
A copy of the customer’s (main driver’s) credit card will be made at pick-up and a block put on the deposit amount (not charged). The card will be charged in case of an accident or any fines. A credit card must still be presented with the Premium Package.
Spaceships charge a 2.7% for Visa and Mastercard and 1.8% with American Express when charging the card.
The damage excess will be charged per incident regardless of the cause of the damage, who claims responsibility or if other vehicles are involved.
All packages always include unlimited kilometres.

Please specify all accompany children under the age of 8, so that we can clarify the suitability of your vehicle in advance. Child seats or booster seats can be rented at pick-up. We recommend not bringing your own child seats, as these may not comply with local regulations.
The minimum age is 18 years. Non English-language licences must be accompanied by an international drivers licence or a certified translation. Only passengers present at pick-up may drive the vehicle.
If you travel in New Zealand first you get the multiple rentals discount off your Australia Rental. This can only be redeemed at the time of booking only both in Australia and New Zealand together.
Prices are calculated per calendar day. The day of pick up is considered as Day 1 and the day of drop off is the last day, regardless of the pick up or drop off time. For example a rental from the 1st to 10th of the month will be a 10 day rental. Long term discounts are available from 21 days onwards.
Spaceships vehicles may only be driven on paved roads.
Australian GST (currently 10%) is included in all packages.
Vehicle Pickup and Dropoff:

Vehicles must be collected from and returned to depots ONLY. Transfers to and from the Spaceships depot are not included in the rental price. It is the renter’s responsibility to get to and from the branch. Transfer Special for all hires 21 days or more: Spaceships Australia provides a free transfer from the airport or city centre TO DEPOT ONLY for hires 21 days or more. This must be arranged with Spaceships staff prior to pick up.
After Hours Service
This is a FREE service available when requested from all depots (subject to availability). It enables travellers to pick up and drop off whenever it suits them best. For example if their flight arrives at night they can still collect a vehicle that evening. All branches are closed on Sundays as well as observed public holidays including but not restricted to: Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day (25th April) and Australia Day (28th January).
The minimum rental period is 5 days.
The rental company reserves to the right to provide a similar sized or larger vehicle with all the same features and inclusions should circumstances deem this necessary (eg, if the allocated vehicle was damaged immdiately before you hire). Any additional costs regarding a larger vehicle such as fuel and ferry costs are at your expense.
The rental company reserves the right to charge administration fees for the handling of any traffic fines issued during your hire. All fines must be settled directly with the issuing authority.
You are required to monitor oil and water levels of the vehicle. Please keep the receipt should you be required to purchase engine oil and this will be refunded to you at the end of your hire.
